Jane Iredale Eye Pencil

Mineral eye pencil in 6 colors for every look

The Jane Iredale Eye Pencil is a mineral eye pencil line known for creamy application, long-lasting color, and nourishing plant-based ingredients. While most eye pencils tug on the delicate skin around the eye, this formula with jojoba oil, shea butter, and meadowfoam glides effortlessly along the lash line — suitable for daily use, even on sensitive or mature eye contours.

The collection consists of six carefully curated shades, from classic black to a universally flattering taupe. Each color is made from natural mineral pigments and contains the same nourishing base, allowing you to choose freely based on look, eye color, and occasion — without compromising on comfort or wear time.

Why choose Jane Iredale Eye Pencil?

Jane Iredale develops makeup from a mineral, skin-friendly approach that suits women who value quality and formula as much as color. The Eye Pencil line is vegan, wheat-free, and contains no synthetic dyes. The creamy texture immediately after application allows for smudging into a smoky finish, after which the plant-based waxes set the color for hours of wear. It is one of the few mineral eye pencils where nourishing ingredients and pigment intensity are equally prioritized.

The classics for daily definition

For those who choose timeless looks without fuss. Basic Black is the pure, opaque black line that works with every skin tone and eye color — the go-to shade when you want something straightforward. Basic Brown is the warm mid-brown variant for a softer day look, ideal for blond or red hair and light eyes that could use a visual brightening.

The smoky and warm dark shades

For muted definition and evening makeup. Black/Grey is a muted anthracite color that easily blends into a refined smoky eye, suitable for graying hair and cool skin undertones. Black/Brown combines the intensity of black with the warmth of brown and is the most versatile choice for brown eyes, warm skin undertones, and dark hair.

The surprising and universal shades

For those looking for something different without falling into trendy shades. Midnight Blue is a deep night blue that visually whitens the eye whites and subtly refreshes tired eyes — dark enough for the office, surprising enough to stand out. Taupe is the neutral gray-brown mid-tone that universally flatters every hair and eye color, especially suitable for mature eyes because the softer color does not emphasize fine lines.

How to use a Jane Iredale Eye Pencil?

1. Lightly sharpen the pencil beforehand with a Jane Iredale sharpener — other sharpeners split the wood and damage the creamy tip
2. Choose a thin or rounded tip depending on desired sharpness: fine for a precise line, round for a soft defined look
3. Draw the first line directly above the upper lash line, from the inner to the outer corner of the eye, in short, stroke-like movements
4. For extra intensity, apply a second layer; for a smoky finish, smudge the line immediately with a small brush within about a minute
5. Let the color set and finish with mascara — matching the chosen shade or neutral black if in doubt

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Jane Iredale Eye Pencil color is best to choose if I’m trying mineral eye pencil for the first time?

For a first experience, Taupe or Basic Brown is the safest choice. Both shades are universally flattering and forgive application mistakes better than black. Those who want a classic look right away can choose Basic Black — the most used shade in the line.

Are these eye pencils suitable for contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes?

Yes. The formula is vegan, wheat-free, and made with nourishing plant oils and mineral pigments. It contains no synthetic dyes or harsh preservatives, making the eye pencils well tolerated by contact lens wearers and sensitive eyes.

How long does the color last throughout the day?

Immediately after application, the pencil is still smudgeable — convenient for a smoky finish. After about a minute, candelilla and carnauba waxes set the color, which then stays in place for several hours without shifting toward the crease of the eyelid. On the waterline, wear time is shorter due to natural moisture.

Can I combine multiple colors in one look?

Definitely. A popular combination is Basic Black on the outer corner of the eye for intensity, with Basic Brown or Taupe inward for a soft transition. For a warm smoky eye, Black/Brown combined with Taupe as a shadow works exceptionally well.
