Dermalogica UltraCalming

Skincare line for sensitive skin with redness

Sensitive skin reacts differently to the world than neutral skin. What is just a normal walk in cold air for others is a trigger for visible redness on your cheeks. A new detergent scent, hard tap water, a shower that's just a bit too warm — all moments when your skin lets you know its threshold is low. Generic skincare is not enough for this skin. A system is needed that specifically targets the mechanisms behind sensitivity: a weakened skin barrier, overactive signaling substances, and an imbalanced microbiome.

The Dermalogica UltraCalming line is developed precisely for this skin. The system combines the patented UltraCalming Complex with oats and soothing plant extracts in a complete routine that calms redness, strengthens the skin barrier, and increases the skin’s tolerance threshold with long-term use. Whether your sensitivity is chronic due to rosacea tendency or temporary due to seasonal changes, a new treatment, or stress — within the UltraCalming line you will find the products that suit your situation.

Why choose Dermalogica UltraCalming?

The UltraCalming line is one of the most studied routines within professional skincare for sensitive skin. The difference with general "sensitive skin" products lies in the targeted action: instead of just leaving out harsh ingredients, Dermalogica adds active ingredients that actively calm and strengthen the skin. The UltraCalming Complex interrupts the signaling substances that cause redness and itching, while oats, aloe vera, and botanical extracts such as Boerhavia Diffusa and bisabolol reduce visible sensitivity. The system is built as a modular process where each step enhances the effect of the previous one — an approach that with daily use leads to skin that reacts more calmly to its environment structurally.

Find your ideal UltraCalming product

For chronically sensitive skin with daily redness: Build a complete routine with the UltraCalming Cleanser 250ml as cleanser, followed by the UltraCalming Mist 177ml and the UltraCalming Serum Concentrate 40ml as soothing serum step.

For rosacea-prone skin: The combination of the UltraCalming Serum Concentrate 40ml and the Stabilizing Repair Cream 50ml supports the skin with visible redness and helps structurally strengthen the skin barrier with ceramides and plant sterols.

For sensitive skin that is also dehydrated: The Calm Water Gel 50ml combines hydration and soothing in one lightweight moisturizer. The oil-free formula is suitable for combination skin and works well under makeup.

For loyal users with an established routine: Choose the larger sizes such as the UltraCalming Cleanser 500ml or the Stabilizing Repair Cream 100ml for a lower price per milliliter with regular use.

For conscious consumers: The UltraCalming Cleanser 500ml refill significantly reduces plastic use and is intended to refill the existing pump bottle.

For on-the-go or first-time use: The Stabilizing Repair Cream 15ml travel size fits in any toiletry bag, and the Sensitive Skin Rescue Kit offers a complete three-step routine to get acquainted with the system.

How to use the UltraCalming line?

1. Start the routine with the UltraCalming Cleanser 250ml on a damp face, massage with gentle upward movements and rinse off with lukewarm water or wipe off with a cotton pad
2. Spray the UltraCalming Mist 177ml over face and neck with closed eyes and leave the skin slightly moist
3. Apply the UltraCalming Serum Concentrate 40ml with upward movements for targeted calming and barrier repair
4. Choose the moisturizer that fits your skin needs: the Calm Water Gel 50ml for a light hydrating layer or the Stabilizing Repair Cream 50ml for more intensive barrier repair
5. Always finish in the morning with appropriate sun protection as the last step in the routine

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the UltraCalming line intended for?

The line is developed for sensitive and reactive skin prone to visible redness, irritation, or a weakened skin barrier. The products are also suitable for skin that is temporarily sensitive after a professional treatment, after hair removal, or due to seasonal changes.

Can I combine UltraCalming with other active ingredients like retinol or vitamin C?

Yes, if built up carefully. Preferably use retinol in the evening and use UltraCalming serums and moisturizers as a soothing layer underneath or on top. During a flare-up or sensitive period, it is wise to temporarily pause the active ingredients and use only the UltraCalming routine.

How long does it take to see results?

The immediate calming effect is usually noticeable within a few days — less visible redness, less tight feeling after cleansing, a more comfortable skin. For structural barrier repair and a higher tolerance threshold, a buildup of three to six months of daily use is needed. The Sensitive Skin Rescue Kit provides enough supply to assess the first effects on your skin.

Is the UltraCalming line suitable for rosacea?

The line is often used for rosacea-prone skin because the active ingredients such as the UltraCalming Complex, bisabolol, and Boerhavia Diffusa specifically target the signaling substances behind visible redness. Rosacea is a medical condition that only a doctor can diagnose and treat — the UltraCalming routine supports skincare but does not replace medical treatment.
