Jane Iredale Amazing Matte & PureMatte Finish Powder

Mattifying finishing powders against shine for a long-lasting complexion

The Jane Iredale Amazing Matte & PureMatte Finish Powder collection combines the brand’s two mattifying finishing powders with the corresponding refillable compacts and application brushes. This category is designed for women with oily or combination skin who want to neutralize shine in the T-zone, but also for anyone who wants their makeup look to last longer with a refined matte finish.

A shiny T-zone throughout the day is a recurring problem for many women. The sebaceous glands around the nose, forehead, and chin produce more sebum than the skin needs, causing foundation to quickly show through and makeup to lose its freshness. A good mattifying powder works not by drying out the skin, but by lightly absorbing excess sebum without stressing the skin barrier — exactly the approach followed by both the PureMatte and Amazing Matte formulas.

Why choose Jane Iredale matte finish powders?

Both powders in this collection are based on translucent rice starch — a natural absorbing mineral that takes up sebum without disturbing the skin’s moisture balance. Unlike talc-based powders, they allow the skin to breathe and remain comfortable, even on hydrated or sensitive skin. The formulas are vegan, wheat-free, and suitable for every skin tone and foundation shade. While many brands choose between shine control or skin-friendliness, Jane Iredale combines both in one mineral formula.

Find your ideal matte finish powder

Within this collection, you choose based on formula, application, and packaging.

Jane Iredale PureMatte Finish Powder Refill — A pressed translucent powder with rice powder, zinc oxide, and a vitamin C derivative, delivered as a refill that fits into the refillable Jane Iredale compacts. Suitable for daily use and quick touch-ups on the go. Ideal for those who want to powder sustainably and reuse the same compact for multiple refills.

Jane Iredale Amazing Matte Loose Finish Powder — A loose translucent mineral powder with rice starch, pine bark and pomegranate extract, plus a light SPF 20 from titanium dioxide. The loose version provides a lighter, more diffused finish and is the choice for those who powder at home or at the vanity table and benefit from extra antioxidant and mineral protection.

Refillable compacts for the PureMatte refill

The PureMatte Finish Powder Refill is sold without a holder — making the product more sustainable and cheaper per gram. The refill clicks into one of two refillable Jane Iredale compacts, which you purchase once and use for years.

Jane Iredale Refillable Compact White — A minimalist white aluminum frame with magnetic closure and built-in mirror. The choice for those who like a calm, timeless look that never goes out of style.

Jane Iredale Refillable Compact Gold — The same frame in a refined Dusty Gold finish, for those who want the compact to match a classic or luxurious makeup aesthetic.

Both compacts fit not only the PureMatte refill but also the PurePressed Base, PureBronze, and So-Bronze refills — one base for multiple products in your routine.

Brushes and applicators for an even finish

The right applicator determines whether powder sits on the skin as a light veil or as a visible layer. For Jane Iredale’s matte finish powders, these four applicators are recommended.

Jane Iredale The Handi Brush — A large, dense powder brush with which you can quickly and evenly apply a matte layer over the entire face. The go-to brush for daily use.

Jane Iredale Powder Complexion Brush — A light, slightly softer brush that provides a blended, airbrushed finish. Use this when you want a subtle translucent layer without buildup.

Jane Iredale Perfect & Set Dual-Sided Puff — A double-sided puff for targeted setting, ideal for pressing powder into the T-zone and locally fixing foundation for extra wear.

Jane Iredale Detail Brush — A small precision brush for hard-to-reach areas such as around the nostrils, under the eyes, and along the hairline.

How to use matte finish powder?

1. Cleanse the skin and apply your usual skincare as a base for makeup
2. Finish your foundation and concealer — for example, the Jane Iredale PurePressed Base or a liquid foundation
3. Choose your powder: the PureMatte Finish Powder Refill in one of the compacts for on-the-go, or the Amazing Matte Loose Finish Powder for home use with extra SPF protection
4. Pick up the powder with The Handi Brush or Powder Complexion Brush and tap off the excess
5. Apply with downward strokes over face and neck, focusing extra on the T-zone if prone to shine
6. Press powder in with the Perfect & Set Dual-Sided Puff for extra fixation in the T-zone
7. Finish hard-to-reach areas with the Detail Brush for an even result around the nostrils and under the eyes
8. Optionally set with a hydration spray for a natural, skin-faithful finish
9. Always reapply full sun protection in the morning as the first base — the light SPF 20 in Amazing Matte is a supplement, not a replacement

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PureMatte and Amazing Matte?

PureMatte is a pressed refill without SPF, ideal for quick touch-ups on the go in a refillable compact. Amazing Matte is a loose powder with a light SPF 20 and extra antioxidants from pine bark and pomegranate. PureMatte is more compact and travel-friendly; Amazing Matte offers more skin benefits for home use.

Are these powders suitable for dry skin?

Yes. Both formulas use rice starch instead of talc, so they only absorb excess sebum without affecting the natural moisture balance. Work on well-hydrated skin and use thin layers — then the powder won’t settle into fine lines.

Can I buy the PureMatte refill separately without a compact?

Yes. The PureMatte Finish Powder Refill is deliberately sold without a holder, so you can continue to reuse an existing White or Gold Refillable Compact. For a first purchase, you buy the compact separately once.

Which brush is best if I want to choose just one applicator?

The The Handi Brush is the most versatile choice — large enough for even full-face application and soft enough for daily use with both powders.
