Jane Iredale Amazing Base® SPF20

Light mineral powder foundation with SPF20 for every skin tone

A foundation that looks like skin instead of coverage — that’s what women seek but rarely find. Many conventional foundations feel heavy, cake on throughout the day, and give the skin a forced uniformity that completely dulls its natural character. Those who want both a polished result and daily protection encounter formulas that promise one or the other but rarely both.

Jane Iredale Amazing Base® SPF20 combines a lightweight loose mineral formula with broad-spectrum protection in one product. The micronized mineral pigments seamlessly adhere to the skin and provide a luminous, adjustable coverage — from sheer-light for everyday to fully evening for special moments — while titanium dioxide and zinc oxide protect the skin with SPF20. Available in 20 carefully matched shades for fair to the deepest skin tones.

Find your ideal shade

Choose based on skin depth and undertone. The 20 shades are grouped from light to deep for quick orientation.

• Ivory
• Bisque
• Radiant
• Light Beige
• Satin

Light-medium to medium — SPF20
For light-medium to medium skin tones with neutral, warm gold-amber, or sienna-rich undertones.

• Natural
• Warm Silk
• Amber
• Golden Glow
• Warm Sienna

Medium-deep — SPF20
For medium-deep skin tones with bronze, Mediterranean, or rich coffee-brown undertones.

• Suntan
• Riviera
• Latte

Deep to very deep — Caramel SPF20 | Warm Brown, Velvet, Mahogany and Cocoa SPF15
For deep to the richest, darkest skin tones with warm caramel, mahogany, or chocolate brown undertones.

• Caramel
• Warm Brown
• Velvet
• Mahogany
• Cocoa

The four deepest shades — Warm Brown, Velvet, Mahogany, and Cocoa — contain a customized formula with 6.5% titanium dioxide and 1.2% zinc oxide for broad-spectrum SPF15 protection. This lower concentration is a deliberate choice to completely avoid a white or gray cast on deep skin tones.

How to use the Amazing Base SPF20?

1. Cleanse and hydrate the face thoroughly as the first step of your routine
2. Optionally apply a primer for longer-lasting wear of the mineral formula
3. Load the brush or applicator of your choice and tap off excess powder above the pot
4. Apply the powder with downward strokes over the face and neck for even distribution
5. Apply extra layers selectively on areas that need more coverage or evening — such as the nose, chin, or cheeks
6. Finish with a hydration spray for a radiant, long-lasting finish that also makes the mineral formula water-resistant

Choosing the right applicator

The final result of the Amazing Base SPF20 is strongly influenced by the choice of applicator. Each option gives a different effect — from airbrushed natural to fully evening.

The Handi™ Brush is the iconic flat-top brush with a short handle for maximum pressure and control — the classic choice for an even, buildable mineral finish.

The Powder Complexion Brush has long, semi-loose fibers that let the powder float lightly over the skin for a natural, airbrushed finish.

The Fan Brush applies a light, transparent wash of color to the highest points of the face — ideal as a finishing touch or for subtle daily use.

The Flocked Sponge has a velvet pile that evenly picks up and distributes mineral pigments without compressing them — suitable for those who prefer a sponge over a brush.

The Perfect & Set Dual-Sided Puff has microfiber silk specially designed for powder products, with a pointed tip for small areas and a broad base for quick all-over application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the Jane Iredale Amazing Base SPF20 as my only daily sun protection?

The Amazing Base contains active mineral filters and is recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as effective broad-spectrum sun protection. For limited daily sun exposure — working indoors or brief time outside — the product can serve as your primary SPF. For prolonged outdoor exposure, we recommend combining the Amazing Base with a dedicated sunscreen underneath for optimal protection.

How do I choose the right shade from 20 colors?

First determine the depth of your skin tone — fair, light, medium, or deep — then look at your undertone: warm (gold, amber, sienna, caramel), neutral, or radiant. The shade groups on this page help guide you quickly in the right direction. If in doubt, Jane Iredale offers a 100% color guarantee for confidence in the right match.

Why do the four darkest shades have SPF15 instead of SPF20?

The shades Warm Brown, Velvet, Mahogany, and Cocoa contain an adjusted mineral concentration — titanium dioxide 6.5% and zinc oxide 1.2% — to prevent a white or gray cast on deep skin tones. The result is a fully transparent finish with broad-spectrum SPF15 protection that keeps the rich color depth of the skin completely intact.

Can I also use the Amazing Base as a concealer on specific areas?

Yes. Use the Flat Eye Brush for targeted spot application on imperfections, redness, or small blemishes. The soft focus effect of Boron Nitride in the formula also provides a polished, even result with targeted application that seamlessly blends into the rest of the skin.
